It’s Pimm’s o’clock! Here are my favourite Pimm’s recipes -with and without alcohol!

Oh yes, it certainly is! The sun has dared battle the seemingly never-ending grey skies of England, and it’s about time we bring out the jugs!

Almost as soon as the presents are opened at Christmas, I start looking forward to picnics and Pimm’s in the park. Well, I wouldn’t skip Easter with it’s gorgeous snow-clad Norwegian mountains, but once the skis are packed away, I’m pretty much ready for summer -and nothing says summer like a jug of fizzing, fruity Pimm’s!

A true favourite here in the UK, the colourful long drink glasses of fruity Pimm’s can be seen in every beer garden and outdoor event in England from April to September. Jug after jug of the old classic is shared amongst friends, and a million cucumbers and strawberries are consumed in happy company under the summer sun.

It’s a celebration of summer, on an island where the clouds like to unload their wet cargo before travelling to warmer climates. The sun is worth celebrating, and Pimm’s seem to be the guest of honour in the British summer landscape!

Did you know that the original Pimm’s No. 1 was created by James Pimm in 1823 as a digestive. His oyster bar was frequented by the royal family, and his secret recipe cocktail should become the taste of British summer for centuries to follow!

For those of you who might not be familiar with the good old Pimm’s, here’s how you make your own Pimm’s -including my own non-alcoholic Virgin Pimm’s Cup recipe:

For the originalPimm’s Cup you’ll need:

Best recipe for non-alcoholic virgin Pimm's! #pimms #drink #cocktail #mocktail

The season’s first outdoor Pimm’s and bbq 🙂

  • A bottle of Pimm’s No.1
  • Oranges
  • Cucumber
  • Strawberries
  • Fresh mint
  • Lemonade/ lemon soda (such as Sprite or similar)
  • Optional: Lemon and lime
  • A long drink glass (and alternatively a jug)
  • Ice cubes
  • a straw and a cocktail stirrer with a sharp end, so that you can munch the fruit
  • Tons of good friends and great laughs!

Virgin Pimm’s Cup:

(non-alcoholic Pimm’s) For one serving:

  • 4 cl ginger beer
  • 4 cl chilled, black tea
  • 1/2 tsp good quality balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp dark, soft brown sugar
  • Lemonade/ lemon soda (such as Sprite or similar)
  • Fruit and ice cubes, as above

Slice the cucumber and oranges, and cut the strawberries in quarters. I like to add slices of lemon and lime too, but that’s entirely optional. Fill chilled long drink glasses (or a jug) with ice cubes, fruit and fresh mint leaves, and add one part Pimm’s No. 1 to three parts Lemonade. Decorate with fresh mint leaves, and serve with straws.

Best enjoyed with good friends on long, lazy summer days.. 🙂
