Cold but Warming Mulled Apple Smoothie to please the palate and soothe the body!
A seasonal favourite in new wrapping
Mulled apple cider is such a classic, and really does warm the cockles. But what if you want to cool the cockles? Or you’d like some fantastic health benefits along with the festive flavours?
Behold the Mulled Apple Smoothie; a real treat which does so much more than just entice the tastebuds!
Benefits of apples are abundant; from providing gut-aiding dietary fibre, to regulating the blood sugar. If you want to know more about the amazing health benefits of apples, you can take a look at our post: “Baked Apple Pie Smoothie”.
But there’s another very good reason to try this smoothie out (besides the delicious taste of course), and that’s the benefits you get from almond milk and cloves.
Almond milk is stacked with nutrients and an ideal alternative for those who are lactose intolerant, dairy-free or allergic to soy. It has a low calorific value of only 60 calories per cup, low fat content, and zero % of that is saturated. Almonds are also rich in fat soluble vitamins, with 1 cup equaling to 10% of your vitamin A, 25% of your vitamin D, and 50% of your vitamin E daily requirements. It is also very creamy, and has a rich nutty flavour.
A perhaps more surprising healthy addition are the cloves. They are a powerful antioxidant, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-flatuant. In other words, your best buddy during the silly season!
To make our delicious Mulled Apple Smoothie, you’ll need:
- ½ cup of organic almond milk
- ½ cup of ice
- 1 organic apple (peel on, washed)
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
Pop it all in the blender, and blend until smooth! Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
If you like a sweeter smoothie, you can either add two dates (paleo) to the recipe, or sweeten with honey or maple syrup (vegan)
This smoothie isn’t thick and creamy, but rather light and fresh, like an actual mulled apple cider!
