Frosty The Snowman Christmas Smoothie – A Tasty Treat With Incredible Nutritional Benefits!

It’s time for the third Smoothie in our Calendar!
This wonderfully frosty smoothie is bound to put a smile on anyone’s face, as well as a jolly treat in anyone’s belly! It’s fresh, creamy and super duper delicious, and makes for a great breakfast option, or just a nice little snowy treat.
Most coeliacs can eat gluten-free oats (Nb: check with your health professional before introducing new foods! –Read about gluten in oats on this link), and for those who can, it adds fantastic nutritonal value to their diets! Not only are oats rich in vitamins and minerals, they provide a great source of soluble fibre which helps to regulate the gut. Oats can be considered a prebiotic, because it creates an environmen in our intestine which helps the right bacteria to flourish.
I am one luckily coeliac who thrives when eating oats, as my body absolutely loves all the benefits it brings. Oats have helped my belly stabilise, and I even had oatmeal made up for me on the morning of my wedding day to make sure the nerves didn’t get the better of me. Oats are, in so many ways, my ultimate safe-food and saviour!
Amongst it’s health benefits, oats can boast with the ability to lower cholesterol levels, stabilise blood sugar, reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, prevent heart failure, lower type 2 diabetes risk, enhance immune response to infection, protect against breast cancer, and protect against childhood asthma (1). In fact, oats are such a wonderful food, that it should be used a whole lot more often!
A good place to start is this fantastic winter smoothie,
(Recipe inspired by “Kitchen Concoctions‘” version bearing the same name)

- 2 tablespoons almond milk
- 1/2 cup gluten-free oats
- 2 frozen bananas, sliced

Just made this for my kids. They loved it! I was out of yoghurt, so used Quinoa and Chia milk instead, substituted oats for quinoa flakes and honey for rice malt syrup. They want it for brekky tomorrow too!
