A Breathtaking Australian Storm..

How amazing is mother nature!

I don’t normally post on Tuesdays (because I’m busy putting together awesome Wednesday and Thursday posts for you), but something just happened that compelled me to throw a few words out there today!

Most people know that Australia is a land of extremes. Extreme temperatures, extreme animals and not to mention some pretty extreme weather.. which last night I got to experience first hand.

I was so taken by surprise that I only got some rather lousy photos with my phone during the thick of it, but as soon as it settled I had fumbled my way to my camera and managed to capture the absolutely magical transformation of the sky from stormy black thunder clouds via bright beaming red, to golden delicious.

The view from my office last night was simply too beautiful not to share! Gosh I love the beauty this land puts on show every now and again. I don’t think I’ve been anywhere else where the weather is so absolute, and so overpowering. You can see it forming and moving as it pushes its way through the landscape.

First came the big, scary clouds rumbling across the skies..

And like the flick of a switch, daytime became night and my internet was gone. Before I knew it, hail the size of golf balls started hammering (!) against the windows. I rushed as fast as my feet could carry me to close every door and window in the house. I thought for sure the windows were going to break, and I felt so sorry for the neighbour whose car was left in the driveway.

In 28 degrees the lawns looked covered with snow, and my balcony was full of ping-pong balls made out of ice. Imagine what those would do to you if they hit you in the head!

It was quite bizarre to see the gardens under a white blanket, it’s not something you see everyday in this heat. Perhaps I wished a little too hard for a white Christmas?

It was all very, very noisy and violent with loose objects and branches flying everywhere. I was so lucky to be safely inside.

And then, suddenly, the clouds broke and the most beautiful sky I have ever seen spread out above me! Flaming red and grand like a velvet curtain at an old theatre. Have you ever seen anything quite like this? I’ve never!

Just to emphasise, this is the actual colour of the skies!

It slowly moved from ruby-red to golden-yellow, like a treasure chest in the sky.

I think this was worth sharing, don’t you? ๐Ÿ™‚
